Hi!

I’m Linda Schreiber from the clan of Hugo Kenneth Schreiber and Marjorie E. Crane. . My Dad, they called him Ricky, was born in Louisville, Kentucky Sept 14, 1906. Mother was born Aug 3, 1912 in San Dimas CA. d Feb. 1997. She was 85. I have two brothers, Michael and Jim. My brother Michael Paul Schreiber lives in Lakewood Colorado with his wife, Sandy. Michael, born Feb. 3, 1934, has two children, Barbara, in Oregon, and Roger, in Anderson, CA. Karen and Roger Schreiber’s son, James Lee Schreiber, is the last of the Schreiber’s with that sir name in this part of the family. Barbara has two boys. My other brother, Jim Bland Schreiber was born March 11, 1944. He died in 1998 of a sudden heart attack. He was 52. Jim met a cousin in Army boot camp just before Jim went to Viet Nam. His name was Bland Schreiber. What a coincidence!

Dad, Ricky had three brothers and two sisters. Dad’s brother Bill gave me most of this information. I wish I had a chance to talk to Dad about this, but he died in 1988 before we had the chance to do so. There are still a lot of gaps, which I hope to fill in as time goes by. I’m hoping you folks out there will help me with that.

Grandmother Schreiber’s maiden name was Catherine Muckelbauer and her mother’s name was Maggie, maiden name Egan. Mr. John Muckelbaur, my grandmother’s father, was the portrait artist who painted the images of Catherine and William J. Schreiber which hang on my wall. I understand he was a carriage painter as an occupation and did portraits on the side. They are really quite good. His father Andrew Muckelbauer came to the US from Baunach, Germany around 1850.

As far as I can tell, Grandpa Schreiber was one of six children also. His name was William and at the time of his marriage to Catherine Muckelbauer in 1903, he was a member of the General Assembly. According to Bill, this was probably in the State Legislature in Kentucky.

Grandpa owned Schreiber’s Saloon & Dance Hall, located in Portland, a section of Louisville, Ky. Apparently at his death he owned a great deal of real estate in that area, and was known as the Mayor of Portland. At his death a man named Fred Locker somehow got control of his holdings. This was all Bill could remember about Charles.

All these folks were born in Louisville Kentucky. But after the World War II started, Ricky ended up in the Navy, stationed in Long Beach California. That’s where he met and married our mom, Marjorie E. Crane. We were all born in California.

I guess that the Schreibers came from Germany originally, but when and where I do not know.

MUCKELBAUR

Maggie Muckelbaur, my great grandmother on Catherine’s side, was an Egan. Her family came from County Cork in Ireland about 1850. Maggie was born in 1852 and died in 1936. John Muckelbauer married Maggie Egan in May 1879. They had six children: Mayme Mary, b. June 14, 1880, Catherine Marie b. Feb. 15 1882, George E. born 1884, John F. b. July 1885, Charles w. B. Feb. 12, 1888 and Marguerite (Madge) b. July 1890. George and Charles never married. Mayme married Hugo L. Schaefer on Aug 2, 1905. Catherine m. William Schreiber Sept 17, 1903. John married Josephine and Madge married John Weist.

Catherine was born in 1882 and died in 1959. No dates for Charles, and William J. Schreiber was born in 1874 and died in 1924. I had heard that William died young and Catherine had to finish raising the kids alone. Since Harold was still a baby when he died and Bland died in 1937. That left the two boys, Kenneth and Bill, and the two girls, Catherine and Bernice. Catherine married William Hackemack, and Bernice married Herman Schlegal. Bill’s wife’s name is Kitty and I do not know any of my cousins.

I have three children, two boys and a girl. In 1998, Jeannine Stewart, the oldest, was a chiropractor in Newport Beach CA. Kenneth Stewart was an airplane mechanic in Colo., and Brian Tarrents was a carpenter in Cottonwood, Ca.

Kenneth has three children, two girls and a boy, Kenneth Clifton Stewart, Ciera and Camille. Their pictures in 1998 are on this web page. K.C. looks a lot like Dad did when he was a boy. Good looking kids, all of them.
